MASONRY WATER REPELLENT TEOKIM CHEMISTRY

TEOSIL 1054

Methyl Silikonate

Product Description

TEOSIL 1054 is a water-based potassium methyl siliconate solution and is used in hydrophobic impregnation processes, diluted with water, to provide water repellency to mineral-based building materials.

TEOSIL 1054 develops its water repellent effect by reacting with carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air. The active substance providing water repellency on the surface is polymethylsilikic acid. As with all siliconates, when used contrary to application instructions, TEOSIL 1054 may cause white staining on surfaces.

Applications

  • Construction Materials
  • Wall and Facade Cladding Panels
  • Gypsum Wall Coatings and Gypsum Boards
  • Hydrophobic Impregnation
  • Insulation Materials
  • Pre-Impregnation of Construction Materials

Special Properties and Benefits

TEOSIL 1054 imparts water repellency to the following:

  • Fired clay products immediately after production: e.g. Roof Tiles, Bricks, Floor Tiles, Pots
  • Aerated Concrete
  • Gypsum Boards and gypsum-based fiber boards
  • Perlite, Vermiculite and Aerated Concrete Granules used as lightweight fillers in building materials
  • Insulation materials

Method of Use

TEOSIL 1054 is in concentrated form; therefore, it should be diluted with clean water before use. The best method is to add TEOSIL 1054 into water while stirring vigorously. Trial applications should always be performed beforehand to determine the correct dilution ratio.

TEOSIL 1054 diluted with water is applied to the material using appropriate tools such as brushing or dipping to obtain a sufficient and even Coating. Application in two layers is not recommended. When used on the exterior facades of Buildings, uneven application may cause white spots and staining.

Service Life and Storage

The product should be stored in its tightly sealed original packaging. It should be stored in stainless steel barrels, plastic or glass containers. Tin, aluminum, galvanized or lacquered containers are not suitable. If crystals form due to very low storage temperatures, they will re-dissolve when the product is allowed to warm up.

The expiration date is indicated on the original packaging. Exceeding this period does not mean that the product is unusable; however, its usability should be checked by testing before use in production. The product should not be exposed to direct sunlight or frost; it should be stored in a cool and protected area with the container tightly closed.

The product should be thoroughly mixed before use.
